Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints

2006

This meetinghouse of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 435 West Harrisville Road was built on the property of the original 1891 meetinghouse (1300 North Harrisville Road). The building stands on what used to be the ball field. The new building was dedicated May 7, 2006.

For a year, both buildings were intact on the same lot, until the older meetinghouse (comprised of many additions and remodeling over the years) was demolished in the spring of 2007.

Members expressed great concern for saving this landmark grove of trees, many of which were planted in 1936 by members.  Officials were able to place the new 16,558 square-foot meeting house east of the existing chapel and leave the grove which you see here intact.

Both buildings shared the same property and remained in use for a short time.  The new building was dedicated May 7, 2006.  Demolition of the old church began in the spring of 2007.
