1919

In the early 1940s, Boyd H. and Lois Coles Christensen built a “Hope House,” a livable basement home where eventually a house would be built above it, with the basement as the foundation.  The basement home included an outhouse on the property, and a weeping willow tree in the back yard. The home was located west of 603 West Harrisville Road where Lois’ parents, Henry B. and Agnes Cook Coles, lived.

Boyd and Lois later built their home on top of the basement, constructed of frame with wood veneer painted white (and included inside bathroom facilities).  They also added a small, detached garage.  The family lived there for some time until moving to Texas for Boyd’s work.

David and Maurine Buck lived in the home for a while.

Marlene Varney was living here at the time a developer bought the property to provide access for a proposed subdivision development. The home and garage were removed including the large willow tree that stood in the back yard of the home.  The lot remains vacant at present.
