Harrisville Brick Yard / HHI Corporation
1887
In 1887 an adobe yard was constructed in Harrisville which evolved into making pressed brick. It had several name changes over the years. In 1906-08, a large, oval-shaped coal fired tunnel Hoffman Kiln, imported from Germany, was constructed with a 140-foot tall smokestack on top which billowed out black soot over Harrisville. The smokestack was a landmark, visible from all over Weber County. In the 1920s and 1930s, the brickyard provided work for over half of Harrisville’s families.
In the 1950s, firing the brick was converted from coal to natural gas, and the smokestack became obsolete; however, it remained as an icon until it was removed April 18, 1975, after being weakened by an earthquake. The brick plant was in continuous operation at the same location, and provided much of the brick throughout Weber County and beyond until June 2013, when it closed its doors forever and sold the property.
2013
In its place, Harrisville welcomed HHI Corporation, construction and manufacturing business, to the 54-acre campus.
