William Gilbert and Phoebe Saunders built this home when they moved to Harrisville in the early 1860s. A second wife, Amelia Ann Batchlor Saunders, also lived in this home that was constructed of wood framing and adobe walls eighteen inches thick.
William Gill Saunders, son of William Gilbert and Phoebe, was the next owner of the home.
Leland Saunders moved his family into the home in 1957 while he built a new home on property at 830 West Harrisville Road.

The old home was removed by family members in 1972. It was replaced with a frame, stucco, two-story home built in 1974 by a great-granddaughter of William and Amelia Saunders, Joy Saunders, and her husband Douglas Weise.
