William Bailey Lake Jr. and Ida Bingham Lake purchased this property from Luman Shurtleff to build a two room home in 1879.  They later added more rooms.  It was built of red brick, set on a solid rock foundation, with very thick walls. 

David and Maurine Carr purchased the home and lived here for some time. 

In 1979, Byron and Janice Dabb Knight, who had been living at 1290 North Harrisville, purchased the home.  Janice’s parents, Ralph and Jennie Dabb, lived across the street at 944 North Harrisville Road.  The Knights removed a little cabin in the back of the home and built an addition onto the house which included a new kitchen, family room, bedrooms, bathroom, and a carport.  As a beautician, Janice used what had been the kitchen in the original home as a salon. 

In the summer of 1996, Byron and Janice extended the roof line, added a wrap-around front porch, and painted the brick white.  

In 2003, the Knight’s son Michael and wife Jennie built a home across the street at 962 North Harrisville Road.  Byron died in September 2017;  in 2021, Michael and Jennie sold their home across the street and lived with Janice while they built a new home in Pleasant View, which included a small, attached home for her. Janice sold the home in 2023.
