1886

Daniel and Marium Whetton Costley bought this property in 1855.  It had a small log house on it, which they lived in until 1886, when they moved into this two-story red brick house.  It was built of hand rolled sand bricks.  A long front porch stretched across the front of the house on both the main level and second level.  It was a beautiful home.  In 1976, city officials considered restoring this house with state funds that they received from the Utah Bicentennial Commission for a bicentennial project commemorating 200 years since the birth of the United States.  However, city officials settled on property with a grove of trees they supposed may have been planted by Martin Henderson Harris, Harrisville’s founder, on which to build a cabin for civic use.

Owners who purchased the home and property demolished the home. and the property eventually became part of the Taylor Ranchettes Subdivision.
