1889
Early pioneers, Frederick and Generva Shaw Miller, built this beautiful, solid red brick, nine room house in 1889. They raised a large family (15 children who survived to adulthood) in this home. The walls are three bricks thick. The foundation of solid rock is twelve feet deep. This house is still very much like it was originally on the outside, except that the brick has been painted a cream color. Originally the ceilings were high, there were no closets, and it had several chimneys. Some changes have been made to the inside.
The redwood barn that Frederick Miller built in 1890 and the nearby brick granary have weathered well and are still in use. They stand as monuments to earlier agricultural living. Several families have lived in this home including Marvin G. and June Carter, Darryl E. Schuttoffel, and Shannon and Mike Carter and their family.
